Banda Roma Negra formed in 1996 in the Cachoeirinha neighborhood of São Paulo. Their music mixed traditional Northeastern rhythms with modern pop elements, a style sometimes called romantic forró. The original lineup included Edson Oliveira on vocals, Edson Junior on bass, Ivanildo Siqueira on rhythm guitar, Marcos Vinícius on percussion, and Cristiano Pimenta on keyboards.
Their 1999 song "Voce Quer Me Consumir" became particularly well-known. The band released several albums between 1997 and 2009, including Eu Não Valho Nada, Papai Chegou, Fiquei de Fora, Na Mesa do Bar, and a live recording. Ivanildo Siqueira died in 2009.
