Banda Segundo Andar formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1989. They worked in the axé style that was popular in the region at the time, drawing from samba and reggae rhythms. Their 1994 single "Inconsequente" became one of their better-known tracks.
The group released several albums in the 1990s, including "Axé Bahia" in 1991 and "Paraíso Virtual" in 1996. Their lineup included Samuel Rosa on vocals and guitar, Chiclete Ferreira on lead guitar, Jonga Cunha on keyboards, Beto Pitta on bass, and Durval Lelys on drums.
In the early 2000s, the band went through some internal changes that led to several members leaving. They had worked with other Bahian artists like Carlinhos Brown and Ivete Sangalo earlier in their run.
