Banda Temporal formed in 1995 in Pará, Brazil, with a group of musicians drawn to local rhythms. Their early years were lean, but they kept playing. Their 1998 album 'A Nova Onda do Pará' gave them a regional foothold, and songs like 'Coração Tum Tum' and 'Estrela Quia' became local staples.
Their sound pulls from carimbó, lambada, and guitarrada, styles native to northern Brazil. They've released albums like 'Carimbó do Mundo' in 2001 and 'Raízes e Frutos' in 2004. The lineup has included Paulinho Pedra Azul on vocals, Mestre Curica on percussion, and Mestre Galo on guitar.
Some listeners have questioned their approach to traditional rhythms, but the band has generally framed their music as a way to engage newer audiences with Pará's culture. They put out 'O Tempo Não Para' in 2008 and 'Nós Somos o Pará' in 2012, with tracks like 'Aprendi a Viver Sem Você' and 'Beija-me' reflecting their continued output.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
