A Portuguese punk band whose 1977 protest anthem 'Nos Deixem Em Paz' became a rallying cry.
For their sound, try 'Garota Engraçada'. For their spirit, 'Nos Deixem Em Paz' still hits hard.
They took the raw energy of London and New York punk movements and made it their own, with songs that directly challenged authority. 'Nos Deixem Em Paz' ('Leave Us Alone') from 1977 became an anthem for protest against the regime. Their catalog includes tracks like 'Garota Engraçada' and 'Máquina Registradora' that mix that punk drive with melodic hooks.
They formed with a name taken from a fictional character in a Portuguese novel, a small rejection of the status quo. Their 1978 self-titled album was followed by 'Máquina Total' in 1979, 'Cidade' in 1980, and 'Zero Hora' in 1982, with Sérgio Dias on guitar and vocals and Rui Costa on bass.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
