Banda Vox Dei formed in Buenos Aires in 1967 with Ricardo Soulé on vocals and guitar, Juan Carlos Baglietto on vocals and guitar, Willy Quiroga on bass, and Rubén Basoalto on drums. They started playing during a period when Argentine rock was finding its own voice, working with limited equipment and facing the usual financial struggles of a new band.
In 1970 they released the album "La Biblia," which included the song "Precisa-se de Santos." That track became something of an anthem, with lyrics that touched on spiritual and social themes. The band's sound pulled from rock, folk, and tango, drawing on influences that ranged from The Beatles to Argentine folklorist Atahualpa Yupanqui.
Their lineup changed over time, with Quiroga and Basoalto leaving in the early 1970s. Other members like Carlos Michelini, Enrique "Quique" Berro, and Mario "Pajarito" Zavaleta passed through the group. They kept recording through the 1970s and into the 1980s, with albums like "Jeremías" in 1972 and "Grito de Rebeldía" in 1981.
