Banda Warilou formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1992, with lead vocalist Alexandre Guedes among the musicians who started playing in local bars and clubs. Their sound drew from samba-reggae and axé music, two styles rooted in the region. In 1995 they released their debut album 'Luz do Mundo,' whose title track became a hit and helped bring them national attention.
They followed with albums like 'Eu Quero Ver o Mundo' in 1997 and 'Bahia in Paris' in 1999. Songs such as 'Warilou,' 'Negrita Linda,' and 'Brilho Sensual' became part of their set. In 2003 the band's former manager was arrested on corruption charges, which led to a temporary pause in their activities. A few years later, in 2010, they faced plagiarism accusations over the song 'O Samba da Bahia,' though they maintained their innocence.
