Banda Waves formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in the early 2000s around vocalist and guitarist Joana Amarante, bassist Pedro Albuquerque, and drummer João Batista. Their debut album 'Ondas do Mar' came out in 2004, with the single 'De Tempos Distantes' becoming a hit. They followed with albums like 'Maré Alta' in 2007 and 'Vento Forte' in 2010.
Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms like samba and forró with pop elements. In 2008, they faced plagiarism accusations over the song 'Oceano Azul,' which they denied. Their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues like poverty and inequality, which drew both support and criticism.
By 2012, Pedro Albuquerque and João Batista had left the band. Songs like 'Outono' and 'Gamis' also appeared among their work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
