Banda Wide formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2000s. The group included vocalist Marquinho Sensação, guitarist Luciano Calazans, and drummer Mauricio Manieri. Their sound mixed samba and axé with romantic ballads.
Their 2005 single "A Menina dos Sonhos" became a hit across Brazil. The song's popularity earned them a spot at Rio's Carnival festival. Some of their lyrics and stage presence drew criticism from more conservative listeners.
In 2008, a public legal dispute over royalties and song ownership led to a temporary split. The band reconciled in 2010 with a slightly different lineup.
