Banda Wolfgang

Banda Wolfgang came together in São Paulo during the late 1970s, around the same time the city's punk scene was taking shape. Lucas Santtana sang and played guitar. Their music had a raw, direct quality that caught people's attention, partly because of lyrics that didn't shy away from saying what they thought.

Their song 'Rock and Roll Destruição' became a kind of anthem. It was the title track of an album they put out in 1983. The band's sound pulled from punk and hard rock, but it felt grounded in the place it came from, not just an imitation of styles from elsewhere.

They ran into trouble with authorities who found their message too confrontational. At one point, some of their music was kept off the radio. For a certain audience, that friction only made their songs more meaningful. They kept playing for years after that, but the moment around 'Rock and Roll Destruição' is what stuck.
