Barry White

Barry White was born Barry Eugene Carter in Galveston, Texas in 1944. He moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and sang with a vocal group called The Upfronts, which later became The Atlantics. In 1972, he signed with 20th Century Records and released his debut album 'I've Got So Much to Give,' with the title track reaching number one on the R&B charts.

During the 1970s, White developed a sound built around his deep baritone voice and lavish orchestral arrangements. Songs like 'Can't Get Enough of Your Love Babe' and 'You're The First, The Last, My Everything' became multi-platinum hits. He was known for extended song intros that created a sense of anticipation before his vocals entered.

In 1978, White released 'Just The Way You Are,' a ballad written for his then-wife Glodean that became one of his most recognizable songs. His music from this period often explored themes of romance and love with dramatic production. He worked with musicians including guitarist Ray Parker Jr. and keyboardist Arrangie Prevost.
