A Northampton band that carved out a space for earnest, guitar-driven songs in the 2010s.
For a good sense of their sound, 'Cloud' and 'Brother's Keeper' are solid places to start. They're straightforward but not simple.
Basement arrived when a lot of guitar music felt either too polished or too detached. Their early EP 'Songs About the Weather' and the album 'I Wish I Could Stay Here Forever' offered something more direct and emotionally grounded. Songs like 'Cloud' and 'Halo' have that specific blend of melodic weight and plainspoken delivery that connected.
They formed in Northampton in 2009 and put out their first material the following year. After guitarist James Fisher left in 2012, Alex Henery joined, and they released the 'Covet' EP and later the album 'Colourmeinkindness'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
