Basim

Basim is a French-Moroccan singer who first gained attention with his 2017 single "Comme Ci Comme Ça," which featured Moroccan rapper Gilli. The track's straightforward rhythm and bilingual lyrics connected with listeners in France and Morocco, establishing him as someone who could move between those two musical worlds without much fuss.

His later songs like "Alt Det Jeg Ville Have Sagt" and "Cliché Love Song" kept to a similar lane of R&B-inflected pop, often with French and Arabic phrases woven into the arrangements. He's put out albums every few years, including Maghreb United in 2019 and A la Mode in 2022.

While he's mostly worked solo, he has occasionally collaborated with other artists from the French and North African scenes, like Marwa Loud and Maitre Gims. There was some noise in 2018 about a melody dispute, but it was resolved quietly.
