Battalion

Battalion formed in Los Angeles in 1989 with Jeremy Hicks on vocals, Brian "Head" Welch on guitar, Jamie Rowe on bass, and Michael Johnson on drums. Their sound mixed Christian rock with alternative metal, drawing from bands like U2 and Metallica. The debut single "I Give You My Life" got attention in Christian music circles for its heavy guitars and Hicks's vocal delivery.

They put out albums like Jerusalem in 1991 and Dust to Dust in 1993, followed by Call to Arms and In God We Trust later in the decade. Songs like "Another Taste Of Carrion" and "Blunt Force Trauma" kept their aggressive approach. Some listeners questioned whether the band's faith aligned with their metal sound, but they kept playing.

Welch eventually left and later played with Korn. The lineup shifted over time, though Hicks and Rowe remained constants. Battalion's later material, including tracks like "Bombenkrieg" and "Cracks Of My Coffin," stayed in that Christian metal lane without much mainstream crossover.
