A Scottish pop group whose mid-70s hits defined a teenage frenzy.
If you want the pure, fizzy rush of it, put on 'Bye Bye Baby'. For something a little more wistful, there's 'Another Rainy Day In New York City'.
For a couple years in the mid-70s, you couldn't escape 'Bye Bye Baby' or 'Saturday Night' on the radio. Those songs soundtracked what newspapers called Rollermania, the screaming crowds, the tartan scarves, the whole teen-idol spectacle. It was a specific, noisy moment in pop, and the Rollers were right in the middle of it.
They came out of Edinburgh around 1974 and had a quick run of hits like 'Once Upon a Star' and 'Dedication'. By 1978, Alan Longmuir was gone and the mania had quieted down, though those early songs kept playing on oldies stations.
