Bê

Bê is a Lebanese musical ensemble formed in the early 1990s, centered around the collaboration between lead vocalist Iskandar Saad and multi-instrumentalist Jad Rahbani. They started by blending jazz with traditional Lebanese music, a mix that gave their work a distinct, unclassifiable feel. The group includes percussionist Michel Fadel and vocalist and accordionist Lara Abou Halaf, whose harmonies with Saad became a key part of their sound.

In 1998, they released their debut album, also titled "Gamou," which featured the song of the same name. "Gamou" is a ballad that deals with love and loss, and it caught on quickly, bringing the group wider attention. Another track, "Garota," also appears among their notable songs. Their music often sparked debate due to its unconventional style and lyrics, but they kept working without much regard for fitting into established categories.

They never aimed for a polished, commercial sound, instead focusing on the interplay between Saad's vocals and Rahbani's arrangements. The result was something that felt both rooted and exploratory, without trying to be groundbreaking or universally appealing. Their recordings from that period still hold up simply as music made by a group doing what felt right to them.
