Beco S/A formed in São Paulo in the mid-1980s with singer Chico Science, bassist Leo Régis, drummer Wilson Reis, and guitarist Sérgio Ricardo. Their music mixed punk, rock, and samba, and their lyrics often dealt with social issues like poverty and inequality.
After Chico Science left in 1991, Nando Reis joined as vocalist and brought a more soulful approach to the band's songwriting. They released albums like 'Beco S/A,' 'Cabeça Dinossauro,' and 'Coração Suburbano' before disbanding in 1996. Other songs from their catalog include 'Eu vou ver um filme,' 'Hoje eu não sou eu,' and 'Tão Confuso.'
Following the breakup, the members pursued solo careers. Their work remains part of the conversation about Brazilian rock from that period, though the details of their influence are often recounted more simply than the dramatic claims sometimes attached to them.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
