Bédi Figueiredo

Bédi Figueiredo came from Itabaiana, Sergipe, born in 1959. He grew up hearing the traditional music of the sertão, the arid backlands of Northeastern Brazil, where rhythms like forró and baião shaped his approach.

His debut album "Forró em Preto e Branco" arrived in the mid-1980s. The title track, a ballad about the legendary outlaw Lampião, caught attention and helped establish him. Songs like "A Flor de Lampião" and "Barquinho de Papel" show his way with narrative and melody.

Figueiredo's music sometimes drew criticism for its perspective on figures like Lampião, whom he portrayed with more complexity than some were comfortable with. He kept writing about the region and its stories, working in a space between traditional sounds and other influences without making a fuss about blending them.
