Bedtrip formed in the late 1990s with Richie Borax on vocals, Kevin Kinney on guitar, Dave Dederer on bass, and Jeremy Stacey on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1999, anchored by the song "Bedtrip." They followed it with records like "The World Is Too Much" in 2001 and "The Sound of Lies" in 2004.
Their music moved through different textures over time, touching on post-punk and shoegaze elements while keeping a melodic rock core. Later albums such as "Waiting for the Dawn" (2008) and "Stumbling Into the Light" (2013) continued that shift. Songs like "Blasphemy" and "Mayday" show the band's range within that evolving sound.
Early on, the group dealt with substance abuse and personal issues that tested their stability. They also faced some pushback for lyrics that challenged conventions and for live shows that leaned into immersive, unconventional staging. Those pressures didn't break them up, but they're part of the story behind records where themes of introspection and resilience kept surfacing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
