Bellowhead

Bellowhead formed in 2004 as an English folk collective led by vocalist Jon Boden. The band's lineup included musicians like Benji Kirkpatrick on fiddle and mandolin, Emily Askew on concertina and melodeon, and Paul Sartin on trombone, among others. They released seven albums between 2005 and 2017, starting with 'Burstow Fair' and including 'Hedonism' in 2010 and 'Broadside' in 2012.

Their sound drew from traditional folk tunes but incorporated elements from jazz and other styles, creating energetic live performances. Songs like 'A-Begging I Will Go' and 'London Town' became staples in their repertoire, adapting older ballads with fuller arrangements. 'Amsterdam' and 'Broomfield Hill' also featured in their sets, showcasing their approach to revitalizing folk material.

While some traditionalists questioned their unconventional style, the band maintained a consistent output through their final album 'Tides' in 2017. Their recordings and shows introduced many listeners to folk music through a more expansive, ensemble-driven sound.
