An English songwriter whose music moved from folk warmth to more inward, atmospheric spaces.
For the early warmth, try 'Old Pine'. If you want the later, murkier side, 'Nica Libres At Dusk' is a good place to start.
His early songs like 'Keep Your Head Up' had a direct, open feel that connected with a lot of people. Then 'I Forget Where We Were' turned things darker and more textured, with tracks like 'All Is Now Harmed' showing a real shift in tone. He's kept that exploratory streak going, never quite settling into one sound.
He started playing guitar in Totnes and put out his first EP in 2010. 'Every Kingdom' came the next year, followed by a turn toward a less straightforward style on his second album. Later records like 'Noonday Dream' continued that more atmospheric direction.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
