The Child

I am not the one, who taught my heart to beat

I cannot add a breath, even a step into my feet

I could not tell you where all of these thoughts even begin

I barely know this body that i'm traveling in

But i must use these hands to dig the land that i must sow

And feed upon the fruit of my love's labor when it grows

And think about a bed to lay my head when day is through

Rest this heavy heart, that it may start when tomorrow's new

I gave the seed that sprung to feed the soul of my own son

But a magic full of mystery grew those legs on which he runs

And i'll never know, how grew his soul, so wonderful and wild

He's a part of me but mystery, mostly grows the child

And the song that i now sing, from whence did spring the melody?

I cannot pin the origin, that sang the song to me

But i will be an emissary in my life upon the sea

Like a gift adrift the ocean, did the notion come to me

In the belly of a lady with a baby that grows even while her momma sleeps
