Bent Knee

Bent Knee formed in 2009 when Courtney Swain and Ben Levin met at Berklee College of Music. They started making music together with a shared interest in trying things that didn't fit neatly into existing categories. Their first album came out in 2014, simply called 'Bent Knee,' and they've released several more since then, including 'Say So' in 2016 and 'Land Animal' in 2018.

Their songs like 'Belly Side Up' and 'Black Tar Water' show how they work across different sounds without settling into one style. They've been described as experimental, pulling from prog rock and other areas, but mostly they sound like themselves. The band has had some lineup changes over time, with Swain handling vocals and multiple instruments while Levin plays guitar.

They put out 'You Know What They Mean' in 2020 and 'Frosting' in 2023, continuing to write and record material that feels both intricate and direct. Their music doesn't aim for broad commercial appeal so much as it follows its own internal logic, which has earned them a dedicated following among listeners who appreciate that approach.
