Bernardo Portela is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, born in 1975. He started writing songs early, drawing from samba and bossa nova rhythms. His debut album 'Passos' came out in 1999, followed by 'Alma' in 2003 and 'O Caminho' in 2007.
His song 'O Caminho' became particularly well-known. Portela works with a regular group of musicians including Rodrigo Tavares on guitar, Marcos Suzano on bass, and Marcelo Costa on drums.
In 2010, his public support for a left-wing presidential candidate drew some criticism. His lyrics often touch on spiritual themes and Brazilian folklore.
