Bernice

Bernice is an indie folk band built around Maggie Morrison's lead vocals and guitar work, with Katie Crutchfield on drums and Michael Harris on bass. Their debut EP in 2017 was simply called 'Glue,' named after the song that became their most recognizable piece. That track has a quiet, reflective quality that drew listeners in without much fanfare.

They followed with a full-length album in 2018 titled 'Puffs, Oaths, and Country Breeze,' then put out 'Shapeshifter' in 2020. The band's sound stayed within a gentle, atmospheric folk range across these releases, with Morrison's voice carrying most of the emotional weight. They kept their lineup steady through those years, working without much studio polish or dramatic shifts in direction.

In 2019, the group had to address some allegations about a former member's behavior, which they handled publicly. They continued making music afterward, but the episode became part of their story. Their catalog remains modest, just those three releases centered on 'Glue' and a handful of other songs, which feels appropriate for a band that never aimed for grand statements.
