Beside Me formed in Los Angeles around 2009. Their debut single "Bleeding Hearts" got them noticed, and they released their first album of the same name in 2010. The band's lineup included Levi Swanson on vocals and guitar, Eli Roth on drums, Ryan McArdle on bass, and Emily Carter on keyboards and backing vocals.
They put out two more albums, "Unraveled" in 2013 and "Ashes and Embers" in 2016, along with some earlier EPs. Bassist Ryan McArdle left the group in 2014, and Jake Reynolds joined afterward. Songs like "Burn the Lies" and "Hold On To Nothing" came from this period.
Their music often dealt with darker, introspective themes, which drew some criticism at the time for being too emotional. They kept writing anyway, and tracks like "Nothing Less Nothing More" and "Oh You Know" continued to connect with listeners who recognized those feelings.
