Betagarri formed in 1992 in Brión, Galicia, with Xosé Manuel Budiño on vocals, Óscar Pego on guitar, Xosé Luis Rivas on bass, and Javier Domínguez on drums. Their first album, 'Músicas para unha película,' came out in 1994. They've kept playing since, with David Bellas now on drums and Xacobe Martínez Antelo adding bagpipes and whistles.
Their music mixes Galician folk with rock, drawing on Celtic melodies and traditional lyrics. Songs like 'Conxuro d'a queimada' and '1976 Martxoak 3' show this blend. 'Conxuro d'a queimada' is based on an old Galician spell used during queimada celebrations.
Betagarri's lyrics often touch on social and political themes, which has sometimes drawn criticism. They put out albums like 'Arredor de min' in 1996, 'Efémero' in 2005, and 'XXI' in 2014.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
