Beth Alves came up in Brazilian music in the late 1970s. Her song 'Cidade Santa,' a tribute to her hometown of Belo Horizonte, became an early signature piece. She released her debut album under her own name in 1980, which included that track.
Her work in the 1980s included the acoustic album 'Quase Acústico' in 1983 and a collaborative project with Gilberto Gil called 'Encontro' in 1988. A live album followed in 1995. Songs like 'Em Tuas Mãos' and 'Sobrenatural' are part of her catalog of popular recordings.
She worked with musicians including guitarist Ney Conceição, bassist Roberto Mendes, and drummer Ricardo Costa. Emílio Santiago appeared as a guest vocalist on some of her albums. In the early 2000s, she was involved in a legal dispute over song rights.
