Beto Popular

Beto Popular formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s around vocalist and guitarist Beto Farjalla and bassist Rodrigo Tavares. They played a mix of samba with rock and pop elements, and by the end of the decade they had their biggest hit with the ballad 'Você Não Presta Mais Eu Te Amo.' The song came out in 1999 and connected with a wide audience.

Other songs like 'A Vida É Um Jogo' and 'Nunca Mais' show the band's range beyond that one signature track. The lineup included drummer Rafael Mantesso, keyboardist André Alvim, and percussionist Gabriel Fornari. In 2002 they faced a legal dispute with a record label over ownership of their music.

'Você Não Presta Mais Eu Te Amo' became something of a standard in Brazil, covered and used in films and TV. The band kept recording after that, but it's the emotional directness of that early hit that most people remember.
