Beto Villares was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1952. He grew up hearing the city's music, which included samba and bossa nova, and started writing songs early.
In 1980, he put out his first album, also called 'Rio da Bossa Nova.' The title track became well-known, with its melody and lyrics that felt like Rio. The album did well and got him noticed.
Later on, there was some trouble about one of his songs and whether it borrowed too much from another. He also tried mixing in other styles like rock and funk, which not everyone liked. He kept making music anyway.
