They released their first EP in 1982 and followed it with albums like 'Angst' in 1983, working quickly through the early 1980s.
Their sound mixed punk with elements of horror punk and thrash metal, built around driving rhythms and Machwitz's raspy vocal delivery. Songs like '100.000 Nackte Mädchen' and 'Angst' tackled blunt subjects, which sometimes got them into trouble.
Betontod was active for about five years, putting out records until around 1986. They developed a following in the German punk scene, and later bands like Die Toten Hosen and Slime have mentioned them as an influence.
