Better Off formed in San Francisco in the early 2000s with Ryan Shuck on vocals and guitar, Jamie Bower on guitar, Chris Feasel on bass, and Matt Pryor on drums. Their first album was called Distortion, which came out in 2003. They put out three more records after that: Silence in 2006, Resolution in 2009, and Legacy in 2012.
Some of their songs, like '9/11' and 'Bad Habit,' dealt with difficult subjects and got people talking. The band's lyrics could be direct, and that straightforwardness sometimes led to strong reactions from listeners. They weren't really making one kind of music; their albums had pieces of punk, alternative rock, and folk in them.
