The track reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, and its straightforward, catchy rhythm made it a radio staple. She recorded for Vee-Jay Records at the time.

Before that hit, Everett had moved from Mississippi to Chicago as a young adult, looking for opportunities in music. She sang in clubs around the city and eventually landed with Vee-Jay.
