Beyond the Desert formed in 2004 with Chris Bartley on guitar and vocals, Josh Zurba on bass, and Matt Meador on drums. They released their first album, 'The Agony of Faith,' in 2006, which included the song 'Agony of Faith' that became something of a signature track for them.
Their music dealt with religious themes and drew both praise and criticism for how it approached faith. They put out three more albums over the next decade: 'The Great Divine' in 2009, 'Eden's Serpent' in 2012, and 'The Awakening' in 2015. Other songs from their catalog include 'Burning Sun,' 'Prometheus,' and 'No Mercy.'
The band stopped playing together in 2018. Their work remains part of the conversation around Christian metal from that period.
