Big Dee Irwin and Little Eva recorded together briefly in the early 1960s. Their main collaboration was the 1963 single "Swinging On A Star," which became a hit. The song was a cover of a Bing Crosby tune from the 1940s, reworked with a pop arrangement.
David "Big Dee" Irwin was from Baltimore, and Eva Boyd, known as Little Eva, was from North Carolina. They were brought together through songwriter Gerry Goffin and producer Carole King, who were working with Eva at the time. The pairing was essentially a studio collaboration rather than a touring duo.
After their success with "Swinging On A Star," both artists pursued separate careers. Little Eva had already scored a major hit in 1962 with "The Loco-Motion" before this collaboration, and she continued recording solo material. Irwin released some solo work as well, but neither sustained the same level of chart success they found together on that one recording.
