Big Engine formed in Santa Cruz, California in the early 1990s with Gus Seyffert on vocals and guitar, Chris Leary on guitar, Andy MacPhie on bass, and Brad Hargreaves on drums. They put out their first album 'Low' in 1994, then followed it with a self-titled record in 1996 that included 'Borrowed,' which got some alternative radio play.
Seyffert left the band in 1997, and Big Engine broke up around 2000. Their songs like 'Come Home' and 'I Hate Love' had a straightforward rock sound that didn't try to hide its rough edges.
