Big Mountain formed in San Diego in the late 1980s around vocalist Joaquin 'Quino' McWhinney and guitarists Jerome Cruz and Tony Chin. They started playing local venues, building a following with a reggae sound that eventually caught wider attention.
After that breakthrough, they released albums like 'Unity' and 'Paraiso,' mixing reggae with rock and pop elements. Songs like 'Get Together' and 'Let's Stay Together' kept their sound in rotation. They toured extensively during this period, though in 1997 Quino's arrest for domestic violence led to some lineup changes and public scrutiny.
They continued putting out records into the 2000s, including 'Caribbean Blue' in 2003. The band's catalog shows a consistent thread of reggae-infused pop, anchored by Quino's vocals and those early guitarists.
