Biliu de Campina

Biliu de Campina was born Carlos Roberto de Paula Pereira in Campina Grande, Brazil. He started out playing guitar and singing at local festivals and bars, gradually building a following with his raw approach. In 1979, he released his self-titled debut album, which included the track 'Melhor do Que Tu' that would become his most recognizable song.

His music often featured explicit lyrics that drew criticism and led to radio bans. Songs like 'Olha o Coco' and 'Côco do Cão' reflected his unapologetic style, which he saw as speaking to marginalized experiences.

He went on to release several more albums through the 1980s and early 1990s, including 'Garganta Profunda' in 1980 and 'O Rei da Boca' in 1983. The rhythmic drive of tracks like 'Coco Sincopado' and 'Coco Trocado' kept his sound rooted in regional traditions even as his lyrics pushed boundaries.
