Bill Medley grew up in Santa Ana, California and started playing music in his teens with a band called The Rhythm Aces. In 1960, he met Bobby Hatfield, and their voices fit together well enough that they formed the Righteous Brothers. Their 1965 single "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" became one of those songs that just stuck around.

With the Righteous Brothers, Medley sang on tracks like "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and "Little Latin Lupe Lu." The duo had a run in the 1960s before splitting up in 1975. Medley worked on his own for a while after that.

In the late 1980s, he recorded "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, which gave him another hit outside of the duo. The Righteous Brothers got back together for some shows in 1989 and kept performing until Hatfield died in 2003.
