Before that single, Mack had been releasing music since the 1980s with albums like "Get Ready to Rock" and "The World According to Billy Mack," but none reached the same level of attention. He recorded "Christmas Is All Around" reluctantly, reportedly calling it "absolute tripe" at first. Bob Geldof co-wrote the song and sang backing vocals on it.
After the song's success, Mack faced accusations of being a sellout and criticism of his lifestyle, but the track continued to be popular. He put out another album called "The Last Christmas" in 2005.
