Biriken was a Japanese rock band that formed in the late 1990s. Their debut single "Nagoriyuki" came out in 1998, and its moody arrangement and HIDE-T's vocals found an audience. They followed with songs like "Butterfly" and "Akai hana" over the next few years.
Some listeners found the band's lyrics unsettling, with themes that could read as dark or introspective. That drew criticism at the time, though Biriken kept writing what they wanted to write. They put out a handful of records, including "Shikkoku no kamen" in 2002 and "Yami no ko" in 2004.
The group disbanded in 2004, not long after that last album. They didn't give much explanation for the split. People still listen to "Nagoriyuki" and the other songs, but the band itself has been quiet since then.
