Birth Control formed in Berlin in the late 1960s with Bernd Koschmidder on drums, Rolf Meinecke on guitar, Bruno Frenzel on bass, and Wolfgang Neuss handling vocals. They started out playing psychedelic rock but gradually worked more progressive elements into their sound. Their debut album 'Birth Control' came out in 1970, followed by records like 'Hoola Hoola' and 'Planetarium' through the 1970s and into the 1980s.
Some of their songs stirred up trouble. That didn't stop them from putting out tracks like 'Hoodoo Man' and 'Plastic People,' which kept their name in circulation among European rock listeners.
The lineup shifted over time. Peter Föller took over vocals at one point, Uli Zenker played bass, and Martin Gerschwitz joined on keyboards. They also crossed paths with other German musicians, including Klaus Schulze and members of Ash Ra Tempel. By the time they recorded songs like 'Jump (for Your Life)' and 'Count On Dracula,' they'd settled into a sound that mixed heavy riffs with spaced-out passages.
