Bishop Leonard Scott

Bishop Leonard Scott formed in the late 1990s with Leonard Scott on vocals and guitar, Matt Lyles on guitar, Jeff Turmes on bass, and Patrick Hernandez on drums. The band took its name from a local preacher, which fit their Southern roots. They came from rural Alabama, where Scott grew up hearing gospel from his minister father alongside country and blues from his mother.

In 2004, they released their debut album "A.K.A. Public School," with the title track becoming a standout. The record got attention for its atmospheric sound and lyrics that dealt with life in the South. Other songs from that period include "Adoration," "Africa," and "All Because Of You."

Later albums like "The Days Are Gone" in 2007, "Mother's Milk" in 2010, and "Glacier" in 2014 showed the band experimenting with psychedelic rock and folk elements. Their music often touched on themes of addiction and social issues, which sometimes drew criticism alongside praise. They kept working outside typical industry patterns, putting out tracks like "Anticonformity" and "All Things Are Possible" that reflected their unpolished approach.
