Black Jacker formed in Brazil with vocalist Ricardo Gouveia and guitarist Eduardo Mantovani. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1996, and the track "Liberdade" became something of an anthem for listeners there. The band's sound mixed heavy metal with Brazilian rhythms.
They released several more albums over the next two decades, including Sobrevivendo no Inferno in 1998 and Nação Zumbi in 2001. The lineup stabilized with André Dea on bass and Bruno Araújo on drums. Their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues, which drew some criticism from conservative groups at the time.
Later records like Fogo e Paixão (2004) and Noites de Fúria (2011) continued in a similar vein. They put out a live album in 2006 and Rock Nacional in 2015.
