Black Label formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s as a quartet with James Murphy on vocals, Jake Pitts on guitar, John Moyer on bass, and Will Hunt on drums. They played heavy rock with melodic touches. In 2006, Moyer and Hunt left the band, which caused some disruption at the time.
Murphy and Pitts continued, bringing in Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, both from Mötley Crüe, to play bass and drums. With that lineup, they released the album 'Songs for the Damned' in 2009. It reached number one on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.
One of the songs from that album, 'Alma', became particularly well-known. It's a ballad about lost love, written by Murphy. Other songs in their catalog include 'Dama', 'Garotas Arrasam', 'Invasão', and 'Meu Erro'.
