Daybreak

Becoming weighted

Ten minutes at a time

Emerald grass dying

I'm locked in sunshine

There dying leaves were

The most majestic, and

Once they've had their say

They'll die together

An hour of warm smoke

And then we'll spray the ash

An old garden hose

Makes embers breathless

No one remembers

The fugitives they were

While she was weakest,

They left their mother

In that other realm

Flew like the sparrows they'd

Transpired to be

Lost in the treetops

Singing in the face

Of the weight that the

Earth tries to assign us
