Archive material and source history
Blind Dog formed in New Orleans in the late 1980s, fronted by vocalist Larry Patton. The band included guitarist David Webb, bassist Terry Robinson, and drummer Trent Pope. Their debut album 'Back Off' came out in 1990, with the title track becoming a hit. They followed it with albums like 'Twisted' in 1992, 'Slap Happy' in 1994, and 'The Big Eye' in 1997.
Patton lost his sight at age 11 but kept singing, drawing from blues and soul. The band's live shows were known for their energy. Songs like 'Be The Same' and 'Beyond My Reach' showed their mix of rock and funk.
They built a following through those years, playing bigger venues as they went. The music held together through Patton's voice and the band's playing, without much fuss about it.
