Archive material and source history

Blind Faith formed in 1968 when Eric Clapton, fresh from Cream's breakup, brought together drummer Ginger Baker, vocalist Steve Winwood from Traffic, and bassist Ric Grech. They released just one self-titled album in 1969 before tensions and other issues pulled them apart.

That album included 'Can't Find My Way Home,' a quiet acoustic piece with Winwood's weary vocal and Clapton's subtle guitar work that became their most enduring song. Other tracks like 'Had To Cry Today' and 'Presence Of The Lord' showed the band's range, moving between extended blues-rock jams and more reflective moments.

Despite the internal friction, the record reached number one in both the UK and US. Their brief time together left behind a handful of songs that still get played, more for what the musicians brought to them than for any grand statement the band itself managed to make.
