Blood Feast formed in New Jersey in 1991, started by vocalist and guitarist Oogie and drummer Sebastian Phillips. They were later joined by bassist Joe Aversario and guitarist Mike Savage. Their debut album 'Face of the Faceless' came out the following year, with the track 'Cannibal' drawing attention for its graphic subject matter.
That song became something of a calling card, though it also brought the band some legal trouble in a few states. They kept at it, releasing albums like 'Kill or Be Killed' in 1997 and 'The Ghouls of Grindhouse' in 2013. Other songs in their catalog include 'Chopping Block Blues' and 'Hunted, Stalked And Slain'.
Their sound has been described as grindcore, but it picked up elements from death metal and other extreme styles over time. The lyrics and live shows were often deliberately over-the-top, which earned them a dedicated following in certain corners of the metal scene.
