Archive material and source history

Blues Traveler formed in Princeton, New Jersey in 1987, with John Popper on vocals and harmonica, Chan Kinchla on guitar, Bobby Sheehan on bass, and Brendan Hill on drums. They signed with A&M Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1990. Their second album, 'Travelers and Thieves,' came out the following year and included the single 'Run Around.'

In 1999, bassist Bobby Sheehan died of a drug overdose. The band continued with Tad Kinchla, Chan's brother, taking over on bass. They've released albums like 'Straight On Till Morning' in 2001 and 'Truth and Bones' in 2015. Other songs in their catalog include 'Hook,' 'But Anyway,' and 'Mountain Cry.'

John Popper's harmonica playing and vocals have been central to their sound, which draws from blues and rock. They've worked with other musicians including B.B. King and Willie Nelson. The band has been active for over three decades, maintaining a steady touring schedule and releasing new material periodically.
