Editor's note

The Bluetones, a steady British indie rock band

A Hounslow-formed group that released five albums between 1996 and 2006, anchored by Mark Morriss's vocals.

If you're checking them out, '4 Day Weekend' and 'Emily's Pine' give you a good sense of their sound. It's straightforward indie rock with a bit of that mid-90s British guitar feel.

Their debut 'Expecting to Fly' landed in 1996 with the single 'Glad To See Y'back Again?' getting some attention. Songs like '4 Day Weekend' and 'A New Athens' still get played by people who were into that particular strain of British indie rock from the mid-90s onward. They never broke huge, but they built a steady catalog that holds up for fans of that era.

They formed around 1990 in Hounslow, West London. After 'Expecting to Fly' in 1996, they put out four more albums through 2006, with drummer Eds Chesters leaving in 1998 and being replaced by Scott Morriss. Mark Morriss has done some solo work since.

The Bluetones formed in Hounslow, West London around 1990, with Mark Morriss on vocals and guitar and Adam Devlin on bass. They were later joined by Steve Roberts on guitar and Eds Chesters on drums. Their debut album 'Expecting to Fly' came out in 1996 and did well commercially, featuring the single 'Glad To See Y'back Again?' which got some attention at the time.

They put out four more albums through 2006: 'Return to the Last Chance Saloon', 'Science & Nature', 'Luxembourg', and a self-titled record. Chesters left the band in 1998 and was replaced on drums by Scott Morriss, Mark's brother.

Mark Morriss has done some solo work since, and the band's music from that period, like '4 Day Weekend' and 'A New Athens', still gets played by people who were into that particular strain of British indie rock from the mid-90s onward.
